Katie
Katie was sold at a very young age to a couple who kept her mostly in her crate as they were very busy and “she wasn’t housebroken”. After a few months, the couple divorced, and neither wanted to keep the puppy. She was sold again, to Cathryn, an elderly lady who had lost her lap dog to old age. We all know a rambunctious six-month-old Westie puppy is not going to be the right fit here, right? Katie was well loved this time, but Cathryn was not very agile because of joint replacements, and kept Katie’s leash on in the house, so she had a chance of catching her. Fortunately, I heard of the situation and offered to help. Cathryn said Katie still wasn’t housebroken, and she was getting worn out from trying to keep up with her activity level. After a couple weeks of telephone contact, Cathryn asked me to find Katie her third and final home.
Randy and I traveled to Avon Lake to pick her up. Cathryn crowded the car with her beds, toys, food, dishes, up to date vet records and all the paraphernalia of a spoiled Westie. Very different from most of our rescues.
So Katie came home to live with the Fair Isle Westie group for a few days and had the first grooming session of her eight-month’s life. We worked on the house training, and extra food, as she was very thin. She played with our fourteen-month-old boy until they both dropped from exhaustion. On the weekend we visited her prospective forever home to check out the fenced backyard. The resident Westie, Noelle, welcomed Katie and even tried to show her how to use the dog door and the specially built dog perch for the view from the living room windows.
A couple days later, she was there to stay and reports are received that she’s not having “accidents” and now has her own window perch, custom built. Her adopted big sister Noelle loves having her around and is being very gracious about sharing toys, food, and the humans.
