Chelsie

Last month we helped with a rescue in Toledo.  Each rescue story is so different, but this one started really differently.  A humane officer in Wood County contacted me.  They had in custody a male and female Westie.  These dogs were homeless because their owners had had some marital difficulties culminating in the husband attempting to kill the wife by piping the exhaust from his truck into their trailer home.  Unsuccessfully.
During the rescue of the woman, and the subsequent arrest of the man, the Westies escaped the yard and had been running loose in the trailer park for several days when the management contacted the humane officers.  When I was contacted they were scheduled to be euthanized within 48 hours.  I telephoned a couple in the Toledo area who had sent an application in March 2004, and they had already found a Westie puppy, but said they would go to the shelter to check on these two, and possibly keep them temporarily until a better solution was found.  Their puppy welcomed the visitors and as luck would have it, the temporary home turned into permanent.  Following are excerpts from that email.
“These two Westies are a pleasure to have.  The male is older, (maybe 10) and the female is younger.  The male has arthritis, hearing and vision loss, so we’re calling him Pokey.  We did get the female’s name, Chelsie.  Unlike our Westie pup, these two will sit in your lap as long as you let them.”
Our club rescue funds helped pay for the dogs to be released from the pound, and some vet bills.  Thanks for your donations to these efforts.
