Southeastern Michigan Specialty Show April 28th

The members of the West Highland White Terrier Club of Southeastern Michigan cordially invite your club members to attend our 27th Annual Specialty Show on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Ann Arbor Dog Training Club in Whitmore Lake, Michigan. More details about the show can be found on our club website www.westieclubmi.com. Westies come from many states to attend and compete for Best of Breed. Mid-day the Club honors the Westies who were rescued during the previous year by holding a Rescue Parade, featuring Scottish piper and a representative from St. Andrews in full parade dress. Club Westies, known as Wee Marshalls, are dressed in their kilts and lead the rescued Westies in the parade. A good lunch is available, along with fundraising items and time to meet and talk to fellow Westie lovers as the day goes on.

April 2012 Meeting – Double Dog Day Care Indoor Dog Park

We just announced the details for our April 2012 meeting! We will be at the Double Dog Day Care Indoor Dog Park in Stow, Ohio! This is a meeting for humans and well behaved Westies, so bring your dogs for some indoor fun. Visitors and prospective new members are more than welcomed to attend. Please share the news with your friends and family!

Double Dog offers everything a busy dog owner needs to be able to truly enjoy having a dog without feeling guilty. In addition to day care, we are Northeast Ohio’s only indoor dog park so you and your dog can get plenty of exercise all year ‘round. No battling ice and snow in the winter, mud in the spring or heat and humidity in the summer.

February 2012 Club Meeting – Includes Board Meeting

The February Board Meeting will be held on Friday, Feb. 10 at 1:00 PM at the Cracker Barrel, 76 Rothrock Loop, Copley, Ohio (at the intersection of IR77 and SR18). Board members are asked to let Gary know if they can attened.

New Rescue: Andy Needs A Retirement Home

UPDATE: Thank you for all whoexpressed interest. We were able to find a wonderful home for Andy!

We currently have a rescue that needs a new home. Andy is a 13 year-old male who’s current owner can’t keep him because of their living situation. He is a sweetheart, very healthy and is current on all vaccinations. If you can help, please contact our rescue coordinator by filling out our rescue contact form. It is time for our annual Specialty. A lot of work goes into the production with the help of a group of people and the donations from many members and friends of the Club. With all of the planning, we will surely have a great weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen.

Remember to mark your calendars so you will not miss any of the events. Thursday, August 4th, will be a Supported entry show. Saturday, August 6th, will be a Sweepstakes and Supported entry show. Saturday evening we will have a picnic at 6:00 PM at the Fairgrounds in the Government Building. Sunday, August 7th, will be our annual Sweepstakes and Specialty Show followed by a catered luncheon.

The August Club meeting will be held Saturday evening after the Club picnic. The picnic starts at 6:00 PM and is for Club members, exhibitors, and friends. We usually have 80 people present at the picnic. Please come and bring a covered dish or two to share with our visitors.

Our June meeting was a picnic held at Ottawa Point Pavilion at Brecksville Metro Park. Thanks to Bob Miller for acquiring the park sight for us. There were about 20 Westies and about 30 people in attendance. We held an auction of Westie items this year. Everyone had a good time.

I would also like to remind you that dues for the coming year are due on or before the last day of August. If dues are more than ninety days late, membership will be terminated.

We still are looking for a newsletter editor. If you would be willing to help, please contact me.

Next Meeting – August 2011

Our next club meeting coincides with our show in August. Please join us on Saturday, August 6th at 6:00pm.

Westies are in the Government Building, in front of the grandstand. Our club supports the entries Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Westies will be in the ring anywhere between 1-3 hours each day. Lunch is served Sunday after the judging is over, potluck picnic Saturday evening 6 PM.

Lots of “westie people” will be camped around the Government building, so consider visiting during the afternoon as well. There is much to see, and we will have other wonderful breeds showing too. We have over 2000 dogs entered, and lots of vendors too!
