			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is time for our annual Specialty.  A lot of work goes into the production with the help of a group of people and the donations from many members and friends of the Club.  With all of the planning, we will surely have a great weekend.  Thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen.</p>
<p>Remember to mark your calendars so you will not miss any of the events.  Thursday, August 4th, will be a Supported entry show. Saturday, August 6th, will be a Sweepstakes and Supported entry show. Saturday evening we will have a picnic at 6:00 PM at the Fairgrounds in the Government Building.  Sunday, August 7th, will be our annual Sweepstakes and Specialty Show followed by a catered luncheon.</p>
<p>The August Club meeting will be held Saturday evening after the Club picnic.  The picnic starts at 6:00 PM and is for Club members, exhibitors, and friends. We usually have 80 people present at the picnic.  Please come and bring a covered dish or two to share with our visitors.</p>
<p>Our June meeting was a picnic held at Ottawa Point Pavilion at Brecksville Metro Park.  Thanks to Bob Miller for acquiring the park sight for us.  There were about 20 Westies and about 30 people in attendance.  We held an auction of Westie items this year.  Everyone had a good time.</p>
<p>I would also like to remind you that dues for the coming year are due on or before the last day of August.  If dues are more than ninety days late, membership will be terminated.</p>
<p>We still are looking for a newsletter editor.  If you would be willing to help, please contact me.</p>
<p>Hope to see you at our Specialty weekend and our picnic meeting.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is time for our annual Specialty.  There is always a lot to do, but because of the hard work and cooperation of all who were and are involved and the donations of Club members, we will surely have a great weekend.  Thanks to everyone who helped to make it happen.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is finally Spring and time for our April Meeting. Hopefully the snow is about gone for this year.  Our last meeting was held at the K9 Pipers Place. We had a talk by the one of the owners about grooming and clipping nails. She also answered questions from our members and guests about nutrition. After the discussion they offered to clip nails.</p>
<p>It is time for us to nominate Officers and Board members for the coming year. If you would like to run for a position, please contact me so that I can inform the Nominating Committee. At the next Club meeting, we will be looking for members who are willing to serve on the committee.<br />
The board has approved a new Standing Rule. Following is the new rule:</p>
<blockquote><p>Standing Rule #30. Championship Plaques will be awarded annually during our Specialty weekend and will cover titles earned from July 1 of the previous year to June 30 of the current year. A one (1) year only grace period will be allowed for late submissions. Additional plaques, for coowners, can be purchased at a cost specified by the Board of Directors and must be paid in advance.</p></blockquote>
<p>Our next meeting will be on April 9 at the Club House of the Reed Memorial Library, 167 East Main Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. We will meet in the Carlin Room from 6:30 until 8:00PM. The parking lot is located on the North side of the building.</p>

Thank you to all who helped financially or at the shows. We could not provide such a good show without the help of all of our Club members and friends.</p>
<p>Thursday’s Supported Show had 37 entries. Saturday’s Sweepstakes had 25 entries, followed by our Supported Show with 59 entries.</p>
<p>Saturday evening we held a picnic with about 60 people in attendance. Thanks to all who brought food and attended.  Sunday we ended the weekend with the WHWTCNO’s Sweepstakes and Specialty. The Sweep-stakes had an entry of 33. The Specialty had an entry of 62. We followed the shows with a catered luncheon.</p>
<p>Thanks to Randy Schriber for being the Specialty Arrangements Chairperson and making all the necessary arrangements with the Host Clubs and for taking care of the continental breakfasts.</p>
<p>Thanks to Chris Schriber for reserving the Motel for our guests.</p>
<p>Thanks to Cathy Blacklock and Chris Schriber for being the trophy chairpersons and for acquiring the trophies for the shows. The trophies for this year were very nice.</p>
<p>Thanks to Willie Reinders and Randy Schriber for being our Chefs and cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs for the picnic.</p>
<p>Thanks to all who helped setup for the picnic.</p>
<p>Thanks to Kim Vacanti for creating the Judges Hospitality gift baskets. Thanks to Donna Harris for acquiring the Judges gifts.</p>
<p>Thanks to Carolyn Bales for handling the arrangements for the luncheon.</p>
<p>Thanks to everyone who helped to move chairs and tables for the picnic and luncheon. And thanks to all who cleaned the building before the Shows</p>
<p>Without our many workers it would be impossible to pull off a weekend like this. Also, thanks to our members and friends for their generous donations.</p>
<p>Our Annual Holiday Party will be held Friday, December 11, 2009. We have reserved space at Blue Canyon Kitchen and Grill in Twinsburg. See information listed on page 4. The web site is <a href="http://www.bluecanyonrestaurant.com" target="_blank">www.bluecanyonrestaurant.com</a>.</p>
<p>Our next meeting will be on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. We will be meeting at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens to see Barkitecture, an exhibit of artful, whimsical and one-of-a-kind dog-houses on display and a dog walk. This is a chance to bring your Westie. Their website is <a href="http://www.stanhywet.org" target="_blank">www.stanhywet.org</a> The Hall is located at 714 N Portage Path, Akron, OH 44303. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 per dog.</p>
<p>Our newsletter editor, Conni Lawrence, has become very busy with her work and has asked that we find someone to take over after this issue. If you are willing to help the Club by doing the High-lander, please contact me as soon as possible so that we can continue to provide the Highlander. A big thank you to Conni for providing the past few newsletters.</p>

<p>At the last Board meeting there was much discussion about raising dues to help increase the Club Treasury, which is<br />
becoming lower than at any time in the last ten or twelve years. I would like to hear from everyone what your opinion<br />
is. Also, if you have other suggestions about how to keep our finances able to support our show, please let me<br />

<p>In accordance with our constitution, Article 5 Section 4, the nominating committee consisting of Tony Hackenberg &#8211; Chairman, Bob Miller and Melanie Hackenburg met to compile, for your consideration and approval the following slate of officers for the coming year:</p>
<p>President &#8211; Gary Hahn<br />
Vice President &#8211; Chris Schriber<br />
Secretary &#8211; Cathy Blacklock<br />
Treasurer &#8211; Carolyn Bales<br />
3 year Board Member – Randy Schriber<br />
1 year Board Member – Carolyn Reinders<br />
1 year Board Member – Betty Miller</p>
<p>Any member in attendance at the June Meeting may make additional nominations from the paid membership only, provided that person so nominated does not decline when his or her name is proposed, and provided further that if the proposed candidate is not in attendance at this meeting, his or her proposer shall present to the Secretary a written statement from the candidate signifying his or her willingness to be a candidate and that they are 18 years old or older. No person may be a candidate for more than one office.</p>
<p>At our April meeting, we discussed our upcoming Specialty and our Ways and Means plans Our 2009 Specialty is getting closer and plans are progressing. Anyone who wishes to help please let Randy Schriber or me know.</p>
<p>Our next meeting will be held on June 12 at 6:30 PM. We have reserved the Ottawa Point Shelter in the Brecksville Metro Park. This is the same place as last years picnic. Dogs are permitted on leashes, in crates or in ex-pens. Please bring your own table service and drinks and a covered dish to share.</p>
<p>To get to the shelter take Valley Parkway east from St. Rt. 21 to Meadows Drive. Go south (right) on Meadows Drive. Then go east (left) to the shelter. Valley Parkway is approx. 2 miles south of St. Rt. 82 on St. Rt. 21 and approx. 4 miles north of Interstate 77.</p>
